Re: The Twilight Craze
From what I can tell it is not so much the vampire motif that is the issue.
As these robotic drones of consumption and pop culture would be out there no matter the latest craze or fad.
Just fill in the blank on your sign ____________!!! (Beatles, Elvis, Peace & Love, Women's Rights, No Nukes, Backstreet Boys, Republicans, Democrats, Titanic, Michael Jackson, etc.)
I don't think it has much to do with vampires or their qualities appealing to people on a conscious or sub-conscious level.
But more to do with the inner workings of these minds.
I could never understand mass appeal like this when it comes to music, movies and sports. I don't particularly like being around crowds amassed in groupings according to a common purpose.

Re: The Twilight Craze
Did it start with Elvis or Beatle Mania , since then, there have been various extremes of outlets for that form of idylic mania
So was the mania being completly contained by cultural restrictions before the 50s 60s except for the odd actress or witch who could channel or express it
And so it was released via media artists 50s 60s and goes hand in hand with the rise of female masculinity up to today
