A Nice Riddle

There are 20 farmers with 20 dogs in a village. The farmers know that there is atleast one sick dog. All the farmers can only see if the other farmers' dogs are sick. the farmers cannot see if their own dog is sick. If a farmer knows that their dog is sick, they must kill their dog at the end of the night when they found out their dog is sick.

On the first night nothing happens.
On the second night, nothing happens.
On the third night there are 3 gunshots.
How did the 3 farmers know they had to kill their dogs?

First of all no farmers could kill their own dog, because they could only see the other farmer's dogs. So how could they see if their own dog was sick?

So I conclude that it was only one farmer or possibly more, but not an owner, who shot just the one sick dog, (because there could only be at least one sick dog asstated), three times.

ill let this one go.

but no the owners kill their dogs when/if they find out the dog is sick. at least 1 dog has to be sick, but it could be more.

alright heres the answer

If theres 1 sick dog. 19 people will see it and the owner wont. so by deduction if you dont see any sick dogs you have to kill your own dog cause one of the rules is theres at least one sick dog.

if theres 2 sick dogs in play however, 18 people will see 2 sick dogs, and 2 people will see 1 sick dog. the 18 that see 2 dont know that there could be 1 more that is theirs and the people who see 1, dont know that one of theirs is one of the sick ones. so if you see a sick dog and the owner doesnt kill their dog, that means he also sees a sick dog. so both dogs get to live to day 2. but if both dogs get to day 3. that means all owners with sick dogs saw 2 sick dogs, meaning each of them had the third sick dog, and the other 17 saw 3 sick dogs from the beginning (but those 17 dont know they dont have to kill their dog until the 3 dogs die on the third day)

maybe theres a better way of explaining this one but there it is.

I would say 3 farmers got in an argument about whose dogs were sick and just killed each other.

You don't mess with someones dog, sick or not. It could get you killed off real fast.
