In Against Happiness, scholar Eric G. Wilson argues that melancholia is necessary to any thriving culture, that it is the muse of great literature, painting, music, and innovation—and that it is the force underlying original insights

Thanks Haudenosaunee, I was able to hear a bit of the video.
I agree that change happens after a person has their lows. I know it does for me. Those who try to always be happy, never
change for the better and end up getting hit with 4 by 4's sooner or later. The good thing though about the lows, is that a person can cry and get in touch, and that is so cathartic.
He liked Jung's work and said Ego has to go into the dark unconscious to bring things to light. And
if you go through the darkness of the collective consciousness you will find humanity or touch what is real.
I was wondering about the lifeforce, they say people are born at different levels with different energies. So one person
may be born with more energy than another and that energy will cause them to have an aura that has more life in it, so
that person may not have to go into the dark to learn? In other words the polarities (the ebbs and flows, I must have ocean on my mind, slap me!) or dualities of this realm don't affect them as much.
