Time to Reconsider Facebook
Is it time to reevaluate online existence?
Welcome to the world of Facebutt, sorry, I mean, Facebook,
where even you can become a monetized friend, a self-branded
slave to the mundane and boring.
Facebook sucks, no really, have a read about how this guy
I know who posts on Facebutt:
This guy I know locally left his wife of twenty years after she got
hit by a car and was in the hospital for three months. Prior to her
getting hit by a car and almost killed, he had been seeing a young
girl sixteen years younger than him, he is from Canada and she's
Japanese. Without a long story his life and relations with people are
totally fucked up, no work, no money and lives on about 2USD a
day and he's fifty-six years old. A complete 'failure' in life as he
told his wife.
So he gets on Facebutt telling the world how philosophically
oriented towards life he is going on-and-on about how screwed up
life is (he's a musician) and caring for humanity he is, his concern for
the welfare of others and all the relationships he's establishing as a
good person, what a psychopath.
Turn off Facebutt, provoke users to kill their online selves and
reclaim their real lives.

Re: Time to Reconsider Facebook
The plebeians version of what C.S. Lewis referred to in his essay The Inner Ring; and what William Walsh referred to as the "plebeification of knowledge."
OBSERVATION: Facebook is like Adam Weishaupt's Bavarian Order of the Illuminati which at first may sound completely absurd until you understand and have studied the Illuminati in great detail.
PROOF: "An Illuminati initiate is expected to recruit as many members as possible into the Order [Facebook] and is instructed how to judge the character of those he might enlist. [deciding Facebook friends and accepting 'friends']. The process begins with himself, his immediate family and friends. [Facebook membership registration and personal images]. Each Novice is given a notebook [Facebook 'wall'] with tables, [Facebook posting perimeters/protocols] which is to be kept and maintained as a journal; he is ordered to write down all his observations. [this has become almost compulsive with Facebook users] His undertaking is to assiduously pry into everything that surrounds him, he must vigilantly observe all persons with whom he becomes acquainted, or whom he meets in company, without exception of relations, friends, enemies, or entire strangers; he must endeavor to discover their strong and their weak side; their passions and prejudices; their intimacies, and above all, their actions, interests, and fortune; in a word, everything relating to them: and the remarks of every day he must enter in his Diary." [Facebook wall; some users are addicted to Facebook]
RESULT: Facebook is the plebeians version of a 'secret society.'

Re: Time to Reconsider Facebook
twitter is pretty useful if you have a good reason to have it. ie you're in a band. but if you're not semi important then it just seems arrogant to post updates several times day about unimportant things, and if anyone reads it its because they in return want that person to read theres. its very similiar to this game idea site i posted on once. people made game suggestions for a game and there was a ranking board. the only way you got ranked up was basically befriending other people and voting up their intellectual creations. even if your idea was great (which mine was), i still had to network with people and vote their creations up, because that was the only way i could ensure my creation got voted. in truth nobody wanted to vote anyone elses up because only the top creations got put into the game by the actual game developers. but it was a closed system. its like having politicitians with no voters. the only voters ARE the politicians. so silly. but yeah. social networking is a lot like that. scratch someone elses back and pretend you're interested so that other people will pretend they're interested in you.

Re: Time to Reconsider Facebook
actually it's quite useful if you want to get a message out....but yes, since there are CIA backdoors and mass-surveillance it's a two edged sword for sure.
I have 135 people in my own facebook group ... we share the 'newest news' in speedlight, we make comments...etc..
it's less about posting your own pics or what you had for lunch for some......but we also know that FB is shit..
We simply don't care (feel intimidated) and still write that Sarkozy etc should be trialed for war crimes etc.
On the other hand, nobody wants to give up the internet...
In the end it is not about FB, Twitter etc alone...but about free speech and the right to assembly...be it virtual or in real life.

its still facebutt, but..
For some, Facebook is route to new kidney
04:46 AM Jan 03, 2012
SEATTLE - Here's another reason for holdouts to join the social media site Facebook: It is a great place to find a kidney.
Facebook and other social media sites are quickly becoming a go-to place to find a generous person with a kidney to spare, according to the people asking for help and some national organisations that facilitate matches.
Mr Damon Brown, 38, found a kidney on Facebook after telling his story on a special page the Seattle dad created under the name "Damon Kidney".
His friends and family forwarded the link to everyone they knew and, today, a woman his wife has known for years, but not someone they consider a close family friend, will be giving him a kidney.
Mr Brown's story is not unique. This past year, a man in Michigan also found a kidney donor through Facebook, and a Florida woman found one through Craigslist.
"It's an extension of the way we communicate. Before we found the Internet, people found other ways: Through a church bulletin, word of mouth or an advertisement even," said Ms April Paschke, a spokeswoman for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which manages the organ transplant system for the United States government.
Mr Brown admits he was a little embarrassed to ask for help so publicly and only told close friends and family.
He got on the official transplant list and knew he would have to wait at least three years before he was called. He was seeing his health deteriorate and could not sit on the bed to tell bedtime stories to his sons Julian, five, and Theo, three, because he had to stay close to his mobile dialysis machine.
"I'm a strong guy, but I would have to say, it's been rough this year," he said.
After one particularly difficult visit with his doctor, Mr Brown and his wife, Bethany, decided to create the Facebook page, which has attracted more than 1,400 friends.
A few weeks ago, after the transplant was approved and scheduled, he posted the good news to his Facebook friends. More than 300 people responded.
Many people are not aware that kidney and liver donations can now come from living donors. In 2010, 16,800 kidney transplants were performed in the US, of which 6,277 came from living donors, according to UNOS.
Ms Jacqueline Ryall, who is not a mother, said she felt a need to donate a kidney to Mr Brown to give back her own good health and all she has been given.
"The real reason I'm doing this is he's got kids and he's a good guy," said Ms Ryall, 45. "My life is in a good place. I've been given lots and I have a responsibility to give back." AP

re: Facebutt is purging political dissent as in the case of Jon Rappaport
They will use Terrorism™ as the justification as always to shut down internet dissent
and probably fines to stop all political dissent.

re: like all corporations Facebutt doesn't pay taxes, or gets a good tax break
Well, that's privatization for you. How else would Facebook be able to mount a huge
intelligence operation against its users who are all "friends" with each other.
And as long as we're on corporations not paying taxes, these 31 major American
corporations dodged $128 billion in taxes.

Re: Time to Reconsider Facebook
I was sixteen and in the middle of high school back then.
I was in excellent shape...eating a predominantly vegetarian diet, doing ninety minutes of hatha yoga a day, taking tai chi lessons, on the swimming and tennis teams and training to be a lifeguard for my summer job.

Re: Time to Reconsider Facebook
i have to say im shamelessly addicted to technology , im shaking waiting for the iphone 5s to be ordered and arrive, ive already sold the 5 in anticipation hours before the announcement for optimum used price, its like waiting for a sniff of coke
But ive never used facebutt as tg framed it , wonder if im missing out on anything
when i feel im hopelessly addicted to technology , i will go cold turkey
Good observation about the screen though flames, as you say, next move is integration into the head
