I discovered some really sad news today (if it is indeed true), that Peter Steele, singer of the band Type of Negative has died today of heart failure.

I take this news with a heavy heart, as his songs were among the most crushingly romantically depressed songs I've ever heard in my life. I am thankful to have seen Type O Negative play a couple of times live.

Yes. His family and band mates made an official statement on the Type O Negative website, and myspace page.

Believe it or not, one of my friends is actually a cousin of Peter Steele. His name is Duncan, and is also a good bass (and guitar) player, and "vocalist" (used loosely, in the context of metal). There's a long story there about why Duncan moved from New York to Illinois. He basically told me that NY is a really tough place to live in, and he moved to Illinois because he has relatives here. I know that his mom lives here for sure.

Here is a picture of my friend Duncan. He is the tall, skinny guy in the photo. You can see the resemblance here. They are about the same height and Duncan told me that Pete used to dye his hair black. Here is Duncan's band called "Horde". They are a very interesting family, not to mention extremely creative.

It's a really boring place to live to say the least. And you are right about NY. I have been there, and there is no way I'd ever live in New York city.

I was born in Chicago, but I don't ever remember living there. I did get to go visit Chicago twice, but that was just because the two boys graduated the Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois. We drove through Chicago. I was like OMG... I wonder what kind of different life I would have had if I had been raised there. There would have definitely been more opportunity there. The people are a little different there than what I am accustomed too. Illinois is actually beautiful with all the green grass and beautiful trees. I don't think I could handle the winters there.

I have thought a lot about that, Rainy. That is, perspective beauty. Some people would tell you that flat land on endless corn fields are the best things on earth. I beg to differ, but that is only my perspective. Yes, the winters here are as evil as they are mesmerizing. Some would say, they absolutely love it. Again, I would say, I beg to differ. QSC I'm sure could add an interesting conversation about the extremities of polar climates.

I have never seen a desert, a land filled with cactus, or even a mountain. Hell, to me it is almost like a myth. A part of me says that if I were to live in another climate, with exotic or tropical scenery, eventually I would miss the snow and long winters.

Basically, I think there is "no where to go" per say. I feel that where we are "in the present" is a sort of static necessity. What can one experience through this particular trial in the present? There doesn't seem to be a specific "paradise" here on Earth.

But what do I know. I've never been surfing in Hawaii, so maybe I'm the one missing out. But at the end of the day, I feel that it's easy to forget where one came from.

I don't come at this with any sort of "nationalistic" approach. But an approach where one can harness the particular local energies that one is given, in the present.

I've always had a yearning to go to England or Ireland. Those lands far away. I'm drawn to it. However, I also think maybe it wouldn't be like I expect it would be. I think maybe I would learn why my ancestors wanted to leave so badly.

Yes. I have always thought about just what exactly it was my ancestors were "running away" from. From the 1700's - early 1900's we saw a gigantic mass immigration from Europe to North America.

What was that all about? From what I have learned, my ancestors from Greece and Ireland were pretty much living in poverty so they kind of "jumped ship". Story has it that my Greek ancestors literally stowed themselves on a ship destined for China, traveled the globe until they reached America.

A part of me can't help but to wonder, what if they would have got off in China? It's too much of a mind-fuck for me to contemplate. Maybe mankind is like some sort of advanced bacteria, or a sort of mold spore that adapts to the local environment (as the comedian Joe Rogan has once implied).

Personally, being born in America, we are such a mix breed of individuals, it seems to me like it was never really meant to work out in the first place. What the U.S. is doing in these recent "new wars" seems to me no different than what happened to the Native Americans, only now without any sort of sympathy what so ever.

I have a deep longing for blue skies and blue seas. I am at the antithesis of my soul's desires, so to speak.

Croatia looks beautiful Irony. Like Kapis mentioned, looks warm. I have to admit, I don't know anything about Croatia, so thanks for that. I also liked the music in that video.

Yes the weather was nice and the summers are long in the South, I got a nice tan and the sea is crystal clear in Croatia.
