Grizzly man
Documentary of timothy treadwell, put together by werner herzog. This is the man who lived with grizzly bears for a decade in alaska and ironically died on one of the last days he was supposed to be out there, before returning back to civilization.
I think he succeeded in co-existing with the grizzlies, due to his many years with them. i think the majority of people would've died very quickly because nobody else had the nuttiness to have the confidence and trust in these animals that he did. i believe that is what kept him alive, and he says this in the first 2 minutes of the documentary. the fact that he could patronize them and believe in them, and assert his own authority among them. made them at least respect him. footage is there of him even standing up to bears who are walking close to him in a funny half threatening way. that is remarkable, because he was out there without weapons of any kind. when he eventually got attacked his girlfriend who was out there visiting him near the end had to attack the bear with a frying pan, this didnt do very much and she ended up dying as well
the bear that ended up taking his life was actually a strange old bear that was new to the area and he even admitted he felt uncomfortable around, and at the time many of the bears that he knew had already gone into hibernation.
some of the nature footage in this documentary cannot ever be duplicated because it involves close contact (touching, swimming with grizzly bears). i got chills from those scenes even knowing nothing was going to happen because my instincts were telling me that what i was watching was extremely foolish. but he was crazy and delusional enough to survive around the bears that got used to him.

Re: Grizzly man
delusional man. there was no friendship between him and bears. his supreme confidence probably rectified many close encounters and also that area had lots of food for them to eat so they were never starving. it was like florida for bears. but some bears just dont give a fuck and a particularily old and hungry bear wandered through his camp one night (his last night ha) and ate him.
and i dont buy that rainyday that he was killed....i heard an audiotape that was word for word part of what werner herzog said he heard. a girl saying. fight back fight back. and a man dying that sounded a lot like treadwell..and only a few bear groans and lots of wind.
somebody leaked it...its really spooky. being utterly helpless. probably cant even see the bear fully in the darkness of night and it just puts its weight on you and you cant move. youre just a meatbag.

Re: Grizzly man
Highnoon, I believe he's dead because the bear sensed fear from his girlfriend and so attacked them both. He really was one in a billion, not to many can get over that kind of fear. Guess you have to have some kind of delusion to do that, but he wasn't insane. Plus he had that rare quality called compassion.
