Hindu sacrifice of 250,000 animals begins

The world's biggest animal sacrifice began in Nepal today with the killing of the first of more than 250,000 animals as part of a Hindu festival in the village of Bariyapur, near the border with India.

hmmm. I wonder if the person that said that, thought the same thing at the same festival 5 years prior.

Chandan Dev Chaudhary, a Hindu priest, said he was pleased with the festival's high turnout and insisted tradition had to be kept. "The goddess needs blood," he said. "Then that person can make his wishes come true.

Now how does he know that!?

Kapis, that same type of slaughtering goes on here in Nipponland by the Japanese at an isolated bay on the Sea of Japan. Most of the dolphin are slaughtered almost ritualistically like a sport and used for meat and the some of the younger dolphins are taken to aquariums, trained and used to entertain the simpletons who constantly require entertainment to make them "function properly" in a monied civilization.

Apparently a group of foreigners clandestinely got into the area and filmed the destruction and put the videos up on a website. The Japanese were irate. Their behavior is inexplicable, on the one hand they slaughter these creatures and then on the other hand television shows are on with Japanese interacting and caring lovingly for animals. Ocean on Jupiter’s moon Europa may harbor 3 mn tons of fish

In a new research, a scientist has suggested that at least three million tons of fishlike creatures could theoretically live and breathe under Jupiter’s moon Europa’s global ocean.

The scientist in question is Richard Greenberg of the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Below its icy crust, Europa is believed to host a global ocean up to a hundred miles (160 kilometers) deep, with no land to speak of at the surface.

The extraterrestrial ocean is currently being fed more than a hundred times more oxygen than previous models had suggested, according to provocative new research.

That amount of oxygen would be enough to support more than just microscopic life-forms, and at least three million tons of fishlike creatures could theoretically live and breathe on Europa, according to Greenberg.

“There’s nothing saying there is life there now,” said Greenberg, who presented his work last month at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society’s Division for Planetary Sciences. “But we do know there are the physical conditions to support it,” he added.

“In fact, based on what we know about the Jovian moon, parts of Europa’s seafloor should greatly resemble the environments around Earth’s deep-ocean hydrothermal vents,” said deep-sea molecular ecologist Timothy Shank.

“I’d be shocked if no life existed on Europa,” said Shank.

Europa’s smooth surface is marred only by dark, crisscrossing ridges that suggest the icy shell is being stretched and compressed by tidal forces.

“We’re used to thinking of tides on Earth as something seen on the shore,” Greenberg explained.

But, on a larger scale, gravity from the sun and moon constantly squishes and stretches Earth as a whole.

Europa, which is about as big as our moon, also gets tidally stretched, not by the sun, but by the gravity of massive Jupiter.

“The friction from all this tidal stretching probably heats Europa enough to maintain liquid water,” Greenberg said.

The warmer ocean material may be oozing up through cracks in the ice and freezing on the surface at the same rate that older ice sinks and melts into the liquid interior.

This cycle of “repaving” would explain the young look of the surface ice—and would open the door for oxygen at the surface to permeate the subsurface ocean.

Greenberg’s generous estimate of oxygen in Europa’s ocean—and the resulting speculation that fishlike creatures may exist there—depends on the surface repaving to have happened at a relatively stable rate, in this case, a complete renewal every 50 million years.

A MILLIONAIRE rabbi with a taste for cocaine and prostitutes has been cleared of running a drugs business.

Baruch Chalomish held his head in his hands as the foreman of the jury announced he was not guilty of supplying drugs.

He admitted possessing cocaine and will be sentenced on December 17.

At Manchester Crown Court, Judge Michael Henshell thanked the jury and told them: "Ladies and gentlemen, you have listened to an extraordinary case. It’s not the usual case of drug dealing or possession of drugs. You heard facts which were really outside my experience, dealing with a man who was an eminent member of his community who was in possession of drugs who was on trial facing drugs supply charges. I’m sure you could not fail to be moved by what you heard."

Rabbi Chalomish is facing a community sentence and will go into rehab.

The 54-year-old father of three, who says he is worth £7m net from his commercial property empire, admitted he had become addicted to cocaine, spending up to £1,000-a-week on the drug.

He said he sought solace in cocaine and prostitutes following the sudden death of his ‘angel’, wife Freda, from cancer at the age of 40 in 1996.

When police raided a one-bed hotel apartment in Shudehill, Manchester, on January 5, they found Chalomish together with convicted drug dealer Nasir Abbas along with 50g of cocaine dotted around the apartment, digital scales, nearly £3,000 in cash and cutting agent used to dilute the drug before it is sold.

The flat was used for cocaine parties.

Police also raided the rabbi’s home on Upper Park Road, Broughton Park, and found a further 50g of cocaine, more cutting agent and nearly £16,000 in cash.

By the time he was arrested, the rabbi had been on a five-day cocaine binge. He admitted he used prostitutes and was generous with them.

However, although he admitted possessing the drug he denied he was financing a ‘commercial cocaine supply operation’.

He said the huge supply of the drug found at his home was for his personal use, claiming he was a natural hoarder who liked to stockpile other goods like tins of food and boxes of tissues as well as cocaine.

He told the court he used it to sleep.

The bundles of cash around his home was mostly for charity, he said.

His friends and family told the court the rabbi was a generous giver, handing over £70,000-a-year to his brother-in-law’s charity and slipping envelopes stuffed with cash through letterboxes of the needy.

However, he became increasingly isolated from his family and the rest of the Jewish community, claiming he kept them at arm’s length because he did not want to be exposed as a cocaine user.

But his secret and reputation were exposed when police found him at his latest cocaine party on Shudehill.

His co-accused Abbas, 54, of Manchester Road, Chorlton, was jailed for six years in his absence after the jury found him guilty of supplying the cocaine at the party.

On duty in the military spent some time in Hawaii so decided to go over
and have a look at the Arizona Memorial, where the biggest loss of
life occurred when the Arizona sunk trapping Navy personnel in the lower
decks.

from the memorial's platform from one of those vertical slanted portal-type
viewing windows seen in the picture, I couldn't help but what my uncle must
have experienced diving for the dead in the days after Pearl Harbor.
